Hasroun Municipality/Marseille University Workshop

The Municipality of Hasroun is organizing along with the Institute of Urban Planning at the Université de Marseille, a workshop within the framework of the Université de Marseille’s Master’s degree in urban and rural planning. Focused on novel and innovative pedagogy, the objective of this workshop is:

To join in the progressive development of a common training curriculum for urban planners at the Mediterranean country level, which will make it possible to face the challenges of urbanization;

To train on interactive and applied pedagogy through field workshops in all the countries concerned (Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia) in order to facilitate the appropriation of know-how;

To promote micro construction projects with the local actors, as well as their implementation and follow-up in the workshops, in order to give a practical and operational dimension to the training;

To allow the comparative approaches of the methods and the contexts to enrich the know-how and the skills of city professionals and territorial development;

To understand the issue of technological, environmental and political risks to face the challenges and challenges of urbanization around the Mediterranean.

The program of the workshop was the following:

  1. Rehabilitation project for the facades of the main street;

  2. Definition of urban development: relaxation areas and planting trees and flowers / urban mobilization;

  3. Recommendations on waste management to make them disappear during tourist periods;

  4. Recommendations in terms of burying electrical wires and Telecom that disfigure the street;

  5. Recommendations to promote this souk and make it attractive to tourists (including perhaps a website presenting the advantages and services of the village);

  6. Support for the setting up of a "Municipal Tourism Committee" in charge of the animation and follow-up of these actions, and probably the support to the definition of their role and their first actions;

  7. Consultation with the inhabitants of the neighborhood to explain the objectives, benefits, constraints.
