Aouad's Article on UNDP's Salam Wa Kalam
While this article proposes community‐driven neighborhood planning as a method to guide post‐war recovery in divided neighborhoods, the key question asked is not whether these methods will mitigate divisions among neighborhoods, as this is a different topic, but rather how the devastated neighborhoods should get organized to improve their quality of life within a clustered and divided city. In his article on UNDP’s Salam Wa Kalam platform, entitled “Peacebuilding through environmental and sustainable neighborhood planning”, Aouad lays out five recommendations so that scaling down to a community‐driven neighborhood planning leads to transformative change acknowledging the divided nature of the society. Such initiatives usually do not require much capital investments or maintenance, can be managed communally, and operated temporarily, yielding fast results and perhaps serving as a catalyst for an enhanced dialogue and peacebuilding.
